Not definite Playlist Psyche van het Folk, Radio Centraal : 2002, April 17th : Extraordinary voices in Italian progressive music part 1 : Opus Avantra with the voice of Donella Del Monaco * Artis Rec. Opus Avantra :( Donella Del Monaco) " Introspezione " (1974)***** Tr.11,"Introspezione" (integrale) 7 min(few seconds less !) Tr.2, "Les plaisirs sont doux" 4 min Tr.3, "La Marmaletta" 3 min Tr.4, "L'altalena" 6 min Tr.7, "Ah douleur" 5 min Tr.8, "Deliee" 5 min Tr.9, "Oro" 4 min Tr.10,"Rituale" 6 min 50 The first album "Introspezione", also referred to as "Donella Del Monaco" is the most accessible album. The integral first track of "Introspezione" (-unfortunately the uninterrupted complete score was not used on the original vinyl and later cd-) is an incredible good mixture of tape collage/free contemporary music. Very unusual but beautiful in its surrealism. The first time I heard "Les plaisirs sont doux" just after this introduction track I was overwhelmed by emotions and wanted to search for this item at any price. Unless the first track (with its surreal nature, a brooding alive piece of music-) contains mostly accessible music forms within very accessible structures and rhythms. * Artis Rec. Opus Avantra : Lord Cromwell plays suite for seven vices (1975)***°° Tr.1, "Flowers of Pride" 6 min Tr.2, "Avarice" 6 min (1 min less) Tr. 9, "Allemanda" 4 min 16 This is as interesting, but a bit more difficult. Less lyrical, more avant contemporary. * Artis Rec. Opus Avantra : Strata (1987)*** Tr.1, "Canto Alla Notte" 4 min Tr.10,"Canto ad un dio Nascosto" 4 min Tr.7, "Canto prima dell'alba" 4 min Tr.8, "Tics (Palude)" 3 min 15 80 A bit more difficult often almost nervous avant garde chamber music (rock)/piano release with the very beautiful operatic voice of Donella with several much more accessible tracks. The vocals had the same effect/impact on me as on first album. * Artis Rec. Opus Avantra : Lyrics (1997)** Tr.1,2 : "Viaggio immaginario" parte 1,2 5 min Tr.8, " Ballata " 3 min 88 Tr.9, " Lyrica Metafisica " 6 min A more minimal version and closest to "Strata". * Artis Rec. A.Tisocco : Ritagli D'anima (1988)* Tr.1, "femminili creature" 3 min 91 Piano track. Some tracks are with toy piano too. * Op.Av.St. Donella Del Monaco : Fragments 1975-2002 *** Tr.2, "Thorn Birds Theme" (1984) 5 min Tr.6, "De Antequera" (1977) 4 min Tr.11,"L'innamurata" (2000) 4 min Tr.12,"Viene a Cercarmi" 2 min 15 105 Unfortunately not always best quality recordings, without disturbing effect -in the contrary being even charming the way they sound- It's incredible music, with lots of kinds of interpretations, all wonderful. The two Opus Avantra tracks I found better in their album version. * Op.Av.St. Donella Del Monaco : Venexia de Oro (2002)**** Tr.1, "Ballata" (D.Del Monaco-A.Tosocco) 4 min Tr.3, "E mi ne so 'ndao" (an., arr D.Del M.) 5 min Tr.8, "Anzoleta Avantilla Regata" (G.Rossini) 4 min Tr.12,"In Sandolo" 4 min 21 125 Very good into depth study of classical Venetian music throughout the centuries. Unique concept. With personal additions. * Op.Av.St. Donella Del Monaco : Merica Merica (2002) ? Tr.10, "La Bella Pavana" 3 min Tr.11, "Pin Pepin Valentin" 4 min 131 Oral folk songs on music from Paolo Troncon (classical)& Barbapedana (folk). Both tracks are an example of a classical and of a folk interpretation. Last track is a poem by Andrea Zanzotto. * Op.Av.St.Donella Del Monaco : The best songs of Eric Satie (2002) Tr.12, "Daphénéo" 2 min Tr.16, "Elegie" 1 min Tr.21, "Air du Rat" 025 4 135 Tr.10, "Poème n°3", 1 min Sometimes in old mood, sometimes contemporary. * Op.Av.St. Donella Del Monaco : Berio Folk Songs (200?) Tracks to be chosen and added later : Tr.1, "Black is the colour" (US) 3 min Tr.4, "Rosignolet du bois"(F) 2 min Tr.8, "Mottenu de Tristura" (SARD) 3 min Tr.9, "Malorous q'o uno fenno" (F) 2 min Tr.10,"Lo Fiolaire" (F)3 min 150 Tr.11,"Azerbedjan" (AZ) 3 min) Very beautiful contemporary version of anonymous medieval songs and some old folk songs. Much recommended release. Also for its original compositions, convincing interpretation. Outro : Si-Wan Rec.
