Turkish Progressive Music presents :
ALTIN MIKROFON 1965 :

* METIN ALKANLI ORKESTRASI
This group recorded an Altin Mikrofon single in 1965 "Karadut"/"Gül Dalinda Öten" with Yusuf Kesen, bass guitar, Hayri Tezcan rhythm guitar, Erdogan Temli, drums. The guitar is Shadows inspired. One track is a nice flamenco like 7/8 (but not flamenco styled) melody in Anatolian Pop style.

A later single and arrangement :

Yalanci Yarim / Nihansin Dideden (Kent Rec.1080)

* KANAT GÜR ORCHESTRA

"One of the best vocal bands of 60's, and an unusual sound, Turkish music in jazz forms and vocals. A nice and rare early Turkish Jazz sample." S.Fiye
with Metin Zyol, Ersin Üreksoy, piano, Erol Enginer, tenor sax, Ildeniz Ürel, contrabass, Önder Bali, clarinet

Weird crossover of contemporary jazz, Anatolian elements, not sure if it's good or not because of the poor single quality I heard.

About single "Bu Deli Gonul" / "Ne Sihirdir Ne Keramet" :
"Perfect performance with conttrabass, sax, clarinet and vocals, sure traditional Turkish forms in jazz sound.
"Bu Deli Gonul" A rhytmic compose, we can't hear Annatolian forms here, more original compose. and wind instruments.
"Ne Sihirdir Ne Keramet" more like a swing, joyful compose, nice vocals and Anatolian sound .  S.Fiye

Jazzy crossover with fast complex rhythm with Ferdi Özbegen, solo, Tekin Alp, electric guitar, Mahir Can, electric bass, Emin Aydin, flute, clarinet,sax, Kamil Taspinarli, Drums.  More information in Turkish here

Other bands (mostly more important) from Altin Mikrofon 1965 :
Mavi Isiklar, Cahit Oben, Siluetler

* YILDIRIM GÜRSES ORKESTRASI :

Oddity. Grotesk combination of (nice) classic Turkish orchestra, voice reminding movies of the 50's with extra not really contributing or rewarding combination of other instruments like tenor sax, alt sax, piano, tinpani, vibraphone, drums making the instrumentation sounding a bit chaotic and unfitting. A first I found this one of the examples that did not really work, but after having heard it a few times I began to apreciate it. It's one of M.J.Coumans favorite Altin Mikrofon singles. Information in Turkish here.

Later single :

Other (mostly more important) names of the Altin Mikrofon contest that have seperate entries :

* CAHIT OBEN
* MAVI ISIKLAR
* SILUETLER
* SELCUK ALAGOZ
