Turkish Progressive presents :
AYYUKA
BIO :

AYYUKA is :

OZGUR YILMAZ: guitar,vocal
ALTAN SEBUKTEKIN: bass
AHMET KUL: guitar
ALICAN TEZER: drums

"The roots of AYYUKA started in high school when guitarist ozgur yilmaz and bass player altan sebuktekin came together and started improvizing (strongly influenced by the Red Hot Chili Peppers). The next step in the development of Ayyuka occured at eskisehir university when guitarist ahmet kul and drummer alican tezer joined. The group played covers and continued improvising, and they started calling themselves 'AYYUKA.'

[The word 'ayyuka' has two very different meanings: 'to the highest part of the sky' and 'to tell that a  secret has been revealed' (an idiom); both meanings describe Ayyuka's music perfectly].

Then, the group started writing its own songs. Although Ayyuka continued doing some covers, now the group started delving into Turkey's Anadolu Rock repertoire; in particular, the songs of erkin koray. In addition, the band started transforming traditional Turkish folk songs and the songs of Orhan Gencebay, the great Arabesque songwriter/saz player, into Anadolu Rock.

Today, Ayyuka has become one of the best bands in Turkey by developing their own unique brand of psychedelic oriental rock: 21st century Anadolu Rock from a land of minarets and mosques."

demoAyyuka : demo (2005)***

Ayyuka play a rather hard edged, relatively consciously simple and often instrumental “progressive” Rock with Turkish chords. Good from beginning to end. With a very direct live performance energy in the compositions.
The group now has their own homepages : http://www.ayyuka.com/
& http://www.myspace.com/ayyuka
